Dee Probst, owner of Baldwin Feed & Seed in Bay Minette, didn’t originally set out to own a feed & seed store. She had been a UPS driver for many years and loved her job. An untimely accident left her unable to drive for the delivery company. She had patronized the feed store for many years so when she heard it was for sale in 2007 and, without any retail experience, Dee decided that would be the next chapter of her life.

When describing her business’ success, she says she has been blessed. “My faith in God and knowing that, through Him, I can accomplish anything” has been her motto. She said that the best thing about working in the store is seeing her customers and enjoying some of the things they say. She has been a counselor, therapist and advisor to many. Dee said that she doesn’t need to advertise, small town word of mouth works very well.

Dee describes her relationship with United Bank as “like family. I like dealing with people I know.” She appreciates the personal service and cannot say enough nice things about the people at her local branch.

In addition to feed and seed, Baldwin Feed and Seed provides their customers with fertilizer, chemicals, bedding plants and sometimes, even newly hatched chicks!
