A dream of having a place to go with their kids to enjoy a scoop of ice cream was the catalyst to opening Aunt Elsie’s Ice Cream Shop in June of 2022. Sisters Amanda Quick and Grace Cannon liked to do this with their families while on trips and realized Brewton needed an ice cream shop of its own. Coming up with a name for their new business was not difficult; Aunt Elsie was their great-aunt who adopted their father and his brothers and raised them as her own. Her photo graces the front door.

“From day one, it has been a success,” said Grace, manager of the shop. “The community has been very supportive. The fact that we were able to open during COVID has been amazing and the regular customers make it fun!” In addition to the traditional hand-dipped ice cream sundaes and milk shakes, they recently added locally roasted coffee, lattes and frappuccinos to their menu.

The interior of the shop is very inviting as the smell of fresh brewed coffee fills the air. There are no TVs or other distractions because the goal is to spend quality time with family and friends. Customers become regulars who stop daily for their java fix. Grace describes United Bank as “wonderful and easy to work with.”

Aunt Elsie’s Ice Cream Shop hours of operation are Monday through Thursday 7:00 am to 5:30 pm; Friday 7:00 am to 8:00 pm; Saturday 8:00 am to 8:00 pm; and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00.
