Cassebaum Farm Market

Fresh Produce in Lillian, Alabama

A lifelong resident of Baldwin County, Todd Cassebaum started selling sweet corn from his family’s farm for $1.75 a bushel to earn extra money. Gradually, other farm produce was added and the business expanded to what it is today. The attractive farm produce stand offers seasonal vegetables such as watermelon, peas, sweet corn, cucumbers, and squash in the summer and winter crops of collards and cabbage.

The produce market recently relocated to a remodeled building on County Road 91. It’s a bustling place where customers from as far away as Montgomery and Birmingham come every year. One year ago, a regular customer wanted to mail a bushel of sweet corn to relatives in Arizona. The first attempt failed so it was decided to purchase a bus ticket for a second bushel of corn to make sure it got to its destination!

The farming business is a family affair for the Cassebaums. Their children are involved in making the business a success. Todd describes his relationship with United Bank in much the same way. Working with the Ag Department has been a very positive experience, and he likes the small-town banking experience. Todd states, “Knowing who I’m talking to when I call and that they know who they’re talking to makes a very good relationship.”
