Hickory Pit Too

A True Southern Experience In Semmes, Alabama

Originally from Bossier City, Louisiana, Brandon Van Hook had a successful career with USA Today before deciding to jump into the restaurant business. With no previous experience, the opportunity presented itself when a place became available to buy and, in 2009, Hickory Pit Too became reality!

Brandon credits the support the Semmes community has given him and feels blessed that they have been so successful. And business does not slow down! Breakfast is served starting at 5:00 along with lunch and dinner daily. His goal is to give a true Southern experience to his guests and make them feel like part of the family.

His relationship with United Bank has been a big part of that success. He describes the quality of customer service that only a community bank can give as well as the personal relationship. “COVID almost made us close,” Brandon said. “United Bank helped me with getting a Paycheck Protection Program loan and I’ve been with them ever since.” Having drive-thru and delivery service also helped keep the business running during that time.

Hickory Pit Too offers breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as catering for events. The menu has a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, down-home cooking and the regionally famous ‘Boss Hawg’ Burger made with a 20-ounce hamburger patty, pulled pork and all the fixings on a giant bun and Boss Hawg Champion bragging rights if you can eat the whole thing!
